- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Pumpa is a fresh take on the famous Aussie Claret. It’s a Cab/Shiraz from the Eden Valley with a dash of young vine Barossa Tempranillo thrown in for good measure, and it’s seriously delicious.
The Temp acts in a way something akin to the Viognier component in a Shiraz Viognier blend. It adds an element of lightness, red berry and perfumed spice and ‘lifts’ the wine as a whole. But really, this wine is all about plush, powerful Cabernet and Shiraz fruit, built into a neat and balanced frame.
The 2014 is a ripe and robust red wine that will perfectly suit lovers of rich and sumptuous South Australian. Super value too.
What It Tastes Like
Ripe and unctious blackcurrant, coffee bean, olives and mocha. It’s powerfully fruited. Deep pools of inky fruit flood the mouth on a wave of smooth, velvety tannins. It’s big, bold and unapologetic. Barossa fans will love this.
All parcels were individually hand harvested at optimal ripeness, destemmed and fermented in small 1 and 2 tonne fermenters. A mixture of hand plunging and pumping over cap management techniques were employed throughout the fermentation. Extended skin maceration occurred for up to 10 days on all varieties post dryness before being pressed off and matured separately in a mix of new and seasoned oak hogsheads. Matured on full yeast lees for 15 months prior to being blended, naturally clarified and bottled without finings or filtration.

About the Producer
Sons of Eden
Sons of Eden is another of the new breed of Barossa labels turning the region on its head, and a partnership between a winemaker (Corey Ryan) and viticulturist (Simon Cowham) who both “learnt and refined their trades in the vineyards and cellars of Eden Valley”. James Halliday has awarded them his 5 red star rating.
The Barossa has a big reputation. Big in every sense of the word. Known for producing blockbusting examples of impenetrable old vine Shiraz and Grenache envied by much of the world, it is a region that should be celebrated as the region that first put Australian wine on the map. Now, with a new generation of winemakers reinventing the region, there’s more than just power in the Barossa’s bag of tricks. With a move toward picking earlier and pulling back on oak maturation, there’s a fresher, more subtle side to Barossa wine which offers plenty to the modern Australian wine lover.
