Silent Way is a 'passion project' label from Shadowfax winemaker Matt Harrop and his friends. While the rest of the label focuses on the varieties grown on the Silent Way vineyard in the Macendon Ranges, this wine, and the others in the "Kissing Snakes" series are sourced from farther afield. This predominantly Semillon based wine comes from the Victorian Highlands and is sooped-up by the addition of a little Viognier and Marsanne. In his 93 point review James Halliday noted that "The blend works well, but would cause havoc in a blind options game tasting; the viognier changes the mouthfeel, but is impossible to identify via flavour." The key here is freshness - the additions of the white Rhone varieties and the 6 months on lees only building the palate weight of what is ultimately a spritely and zippy wine with a little added interest.

What it Tastes Like

"Smells like semillon – lemon, lemon curd, dried herbs, cut grass, faint saline characters – and feels fresh and vibrant in the glass. Clean and clear in the palate, zippy with citrussy tang. Lean, racy, refreshing, touch of chalkiness in texture. Lots of merit here. Chill and drink in sun." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
