Like many of the country’s wine regions the Margaret River is going through somewhat of a transition, and Si Vintners is one of the bright young stars leading the way.
Si Vintners is the label of dynamic duo Sarah Morris (the ‘S’) and Iwo Jakimowicz (the ‘I’), who after years of both studying and practicing winemaking both here and abroad in Spain, finally settled in Margaret River. They stumbled upon a small 35+-year-old vineyard just south of Margaret River, and jumped at the chance to establish their own special site.
They immediately set to work converting the vineyard to organic and biodynamic practices - a philosophy they are very passionate about. They also adopt a very hand-off, minimalist attitude in the winery, and the natural feeling wines show the benefits of this approach.
As Max Allen said, “the wines this couple has made so far are very exciting.” We couldn’t agree more.
If you’re looking to get started with Si Vintners, the Si White and Si Red are perfect. This ‘White’ is a blend of Semillon (hand-picked off their vineyard and fermented in concrete eggs) and Chardonnay (taken from another vineyard managed by the pair).
It’s a spicy, chewy, quirky sort of wine - as refreshing as it is thought-provoking. 9 months on its lees has added further texture and interest.
It’s a lovely drink, made in miniscule quantities (just 120 cases) and super value too!
What It Tastes Like
“Spicy kind of intro to this wine – gets you worked up for the hit of lemony, green apple-driven flavours that follow. Very crispy in texture with a kind of wild, loose-knit feel. So refreshing, more so for that brisk, saline tang that follows. Whip that palate clean. Zing, crunch. Super.” - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
90 points. “Chardonnay and semillon seem to be easy bedfellows, particularly for early complexity for ready consumption and interest. Semillon is fermented in concrete eggs and hand-harvested from the Si home block, chardonnay from a vineyard managed by Iwo and Sarah of Si.

Margaret River is recognised as one of the country’s finest wine growing regions. The quality of the region’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay rival the very best in the world. But Margaret River is no two-trick-pony. There, Tempranillo and Malbec are excelling, Touriga Nacional seems to be quite at home, Chenin Blanc is getting serious and even pockets of Nebbiolo are rearing their heads. Watch this space. Who knows what new surprises are just around the corner from this famous region.
