About

If this isn’t one of the best value Shiraz in the country, then I’ll be damned.

Lock and Key is the entry label of Moppity Vineyards - one of the hottest wineries in the country. No joke, these guys are on fire!

What started as a venture supplying fruit to bigger wineries quickly changed when a certain 2006 Shiraz won Gold at the London International Wine and Spirits Competition. The accolades have been flooding in ever since, with hundreds of trophies and medals won in the last five years alone.

Shiraz is what Moppity do best, and at sub $20 this little beauty is the perfect way to get to know their unique style.

The 2013 picked up 95 points from James Halliday and a 97 points at the Melbourne Wine Show (where it was beaten in the Shiraz class only by the eventual Jimmy Watson Trophy winner), and Moppity owner Jason Brown reckons 2014 may just be the winery’s best vintage yet.

It’s firm and ripe yet elegant and balanced, and if there’s a more complete cool climate Australian Shiraz at the same price then I’d love to see it. A no-brainer.

What It Tastes Like

This screams modern Aussie cool climate Shiraz. Mulberries, blueberries and spice with a hint of lavender and a light dusting of herbs. Just so slippery, so refined, so much wine for this price. Outstanding again. Just goes down the hatch too easily.
