- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Ipso Facto Cabernet is a supple, graceful incarnation of Cabernet from Margaret River. It's made with the deft touch of Kate Morgan, in a style that she believes to be more conducive to Australian wine drinking culture. Backed off on the oak, handled gently, looking for finesse and drinkability without compromising quality or complexity. It's a fine line to tread and she does it with ease. A great release from Kate this year and one that will look equally good on your dinner table tomorrow as in 10 years time. Less the 150 dozen made.
What it Tastes Like
Very bright and fragrant, more red fruited than many of its kind in the area. Purple flowers, a twist of mint, mingle with fresh berries and subtle oak. In the palate it treads softly, softly with red fruits, mulberries, subtle tannins and it's fresh! Gorgeous drinking.
Wallcliffe sub-region. Gravelly loam soils. Cold soak. Wild yeast. Open fermenters. Hand plunged. Extended maceration. Nine months in French oak. Limited production. Enjoy any time over the next ten years.
Closure: Screw Cap

About the Producer
Kate Morgan is one of the finest winemakers in Margaret River. While she keeps herself busy with her day job at Fraser Gallop, Kate still finds time to craft small batches of elegant wines under her own label Ipso Facto. These are pure wines that eloquently articulate the variety and region.
Margaret River is recognised as one of the country’s finest wine growing regions. The quality of the region’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay rival the very best in the world. But Margaret River is no two-trick-pony. There, Tempranillo and Malbec are excelling, Touriga Nacional seems to be quite at home, Chenin Blanc is getting serious and even pockets of Nebbiolo are rearing their heads. Watch this space. Who knows what new surprises are just around the corner from this famous region.
Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the truly Nobel grapes. An inherently structural variety, Cabernet when handled gently can produce majestic wines of grace and beauty that mature gloriously with time in the bottle. Australian Cabernet runs the full gamut of style: from lighter, more finely boned versions from regions such as the Yarra Valley, through the exquisitely complex and firm wines of Margaret River to the intensely powerful wines from the Coonawarra, there is much to explore in the world of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon.
