The Fighting Gully Road Aglianico is an outlier in the FGR range. The fruit comes from the Walpole vineyard in the Alpine Valleys as opposed to the Beechworth plots that supply the rest of the range. This is a seriously savoury and structural style of Aglianico. It shows the gritty tannin and bright acidity that makes this variety so popular in its native homes of Campania and Basilicata. The 2014 quite impressed Mike Bennie who awarded it 93 points along with the comment "Really lovely drinking; I like the structure and added interest here." This is an Aglianico that leans into its Italian heritage.

What it Tastes Like

"Black currants, black olive, pepper, lavender, sour cherry. This has some pep. Crisp in the palate, really nice sour tang through the fuller figured wine but with ripe red fruits washing around too. Tannins sheath the fruit, firm up through the sandy, dusty finish, though a corkscrew of fresh acidity helps things along. Really lovely drinking; I like the structure and added interest here." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
