- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Since 2007, Evoi founder and winemaker Nigel Ludlow has made some gorgeous Margaret River wines from regional hero varieties.
His Cabernet is grown on a single vineyard in the heart of Margaret River. He adds small portions of Petit Verdot and Malbec to the blend for extra complexity. The aim to create a classic Margaret River Cabernet which is both approachable and cellar-worthy.
With 95 points from James Halliday, this is a top example of why Margaret River is one of the country’s most celebrated Cabernet regions.
What It Tastes Like
“A full-bodied, majestic Margaret River cabernet with layers of blackcurrant fruit, bay leaf, plentiful ripe tannins and oak to match.” - James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)

The grapes for this wine were handpicked and fermented as small parcels with manual plunging. The wine was then pressed into French barriques and tank, to finish primary and malolactic ferment. After maturation for a further 12 months the wine was bottled and left for a period to gain complexity with bottle age. Tasting Notes: Aromas of bright cassis and blueberry are supported by plum, black olive, fresh tobacco leaf, and cocoa notes. The palate is complex and velvety, with the fruit and savoury notes balanced with a seamless finish of ripe tannins and integrated French oak.

Margaret River is recognised as one of the country’s finest wine growing regions. The quality of the region’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay rival the very best in the world. But Margaret River is no two-trick-pony. There, Tempranillo and Malbec are excelling, Touriga Nacional seems to be quite at home, Chenin Blanc is getting serious and even pockets of Nebbiolo are rearing their heads. Watch this space. Who knows what new surprises are just around the corner from this famous region.
Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the truly Nobel grapes. An inherently structural variety, Cabernet when handled gently can produce majestic wines of grace and beauty that mature gloriously with time in the bottle. Australian Cabernet runs the full gamut of style: from lighter, more finely boned versions from regions such as the Yarra Valley, through the exquisitely complex and firm wines of Margaret River to the intensely powerful wines from the Coonawarra, there is much to explore in the world of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon.
