- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Eccolo range is the banner under which winemaker Mark Day showcases his flair with Italian varieties. His robust take on Sagrantino is an excellent example of this oft times difficult to navigate variety. It shows the variety's signature firm tannin and deep, dark fruit, but with an element of approachability which is key to making this wine loveable immediately on release. Looking for interesting alternatives to full-bodied Shiraz? This 93 point version of Sagrantino should hit the spot nicely.
What it Tastes Like
"Earthy, spicy, peppery, black fruit, liquorice. Medium to full bodied, quite dry and rugged tannin, but smoothed by and weaved through rich black fruit and Old Jamaica chocolate flavours. Raspberry freshness bobs up, somewhat unexpectedly, on the satisfying finish. Lovely. It’s a bold, but not forbidding expression of Sagrantino." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

They are wines ripened b the Australian sun, though made in styles influenced heavily by his time in Italy, specifically in Valpolicella.
