- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Collector, in only a short space of time, has developed an enviable reputation as one of the Canberra district’s most consistently high-quality producers.
One of the keys to Alex McKay’s success has been to keep things small. He only produces tiny quantities of ultra-premium wine from Canberra and the surrounding areas. His Tiger Tiger is Tumbarumba Chardonnay at its most fierce.
This is serious Chardonnay built for speed and agility. It carries the attributes of its namesake, it is muscular, lean and strikes with precision.
James Halliday awarded the 2014 vintage 96 points and noted its “Rocket fuel power” . This is cool-climate Chardonnay with swagger.
What It Tastes Like
“I10V1 clone, the vineyard at 850m, hand-picked, whole bunch-pressed, fermented in French oak (30% new) full mlf, matured for 11 months. Rocket fuel power; ultimate intensity and focus, mlf was clearly essential; unsweetened grapefruit and zest plus some white peach and nutty oak.” - James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)

Blend Chardonnay (100%), TUMBARUMBA
Season The 2014 growing season was marked by average temperatures and precipitation. Good spring rains and a dry December/January enabled stress-free ripening and good retention of aromatics and grape acid.
Viticulture Gordon & Elizabeth Cribbin’s vineyard sits in a saddle at 850m above sea level, at the foothills of the Snowy Mountains. The site drains to valleys either side and offers exceptional conditions for growing Chardonnay at the cool margin. The soil is deep, well-drained, weathered granite.
Winemaking The grapes were harvested at just over 12 Baumé, with 11+ g/L acid. The fruit was whole bunch pressed and run to a mix of new and seasoned Allier and Tronçais oak for fermentation. Each parcel underwent a full malolactic fermentation and was aged on lees before blending and bottling in February 2015.
Taste The wine is fresh on the nose with aromas of white flowers, grapefruit and flint. A changing and complex wine of depth and concentration that with time in the glass reveals lemon curd, brioche and spent matchsticks. The palate is focussed, mouth-filling and long. The wine will metamorphose and take on complexity with age.

About the Producer
Collector are a boutique winery from outside of the Canberra District. The wines are of extremely high quality but only made in tiny quantity. With a focus on premium Shiraz and Chardonnay, they know what they do well and stick to it. This approach has served them well as they have won multiple awards in their short yet exceptional history. These are wines with longevity and class. The embodiment of the modern Australian cool-climate wine scene.
Australian Chardonnay is a seductive variety that comes in all shapes and sizes. From the toasty and voluptuous to the lean, flinty and minerally, there is a Chardonnay out there to suit everyone. Australia’s developing prowess with this variety has been marked by the international community with wine writers such as Jancis Robinson marvelling at the outstanding value to be had right across the country. The prestige brands of Margaret River offer wines of deep flavour and power, often crafting fuller-figured Chardonnay of outstanding quality. The cooler-climate wines from the Yarra Valley, Tasmania and the like are more focused and linear, building complexity around a backbone of pristine acidity. Whatever your preference, there is an Australian Chardonnay to enchant all comers.
