- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Anna And Derek at Cape Jaffa live out on a limb. Their wines are built of sun, sweat and sea breeze.
Their gorgeous biodynamically grown vineyard located in Mt Benson on the Limestone Coast produces unique wines which speak of the vineyard. Their La Lune Shiraz is the top of their range, a single block bottling from their favourite vines.
The 2014 is a powerful Shiraz replete with spice and structure. It received 94 points from Campbell Mattinson, making it one of the best flagbearers for premium quality in the region. This is built for the cellar or for special occasion drinking now.
What It Tastes Like
“This will live for a very long time. It’s rich, almost saturated, with plum-like fruit flavour and a forge of iron-strong tannin. Saltbush characters play a role; so too a sluice of smoky oak. At every turn: both polish and substance.” - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Style: Savoury and refined, single vineyard red.
The inspiration: This Shiraz comes from our favourite block 6, a plot that produces unique wines that speak of the site.
Open fermentation bucketed out by hand so it could be gently pressed using our neighbour’s little basket press. Careful use of tight grain French oak barrels that enhance rather than compete with the distinctive fruit characters. Very much a cool climate wine where spice and florals make for a unique and elegant style that packs a punch in flavour intensity. Low sulphur.
Cellaring: This wine is drinking well now however over the next ten years it will become softer and more savoury if you prefer an aged style.
Food pairing: This is our most elegant style of Shiraz so bust out the finery and make an occasion of it. Think strong hard cheese, rare meats like kangaroo or beef and chocolate to finish.

Long held up to the rest of the world as Australia’s flagship red variety, the mighty Australian Shiraz has undergone something of a renaissance over the past two decades. While our robust styles of Shiraz from powerhouse South Australian regions such as the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale may have put Australian wine on the map, Shiraz from our cooler regions are giving the variety a new look. Wines from Canberra, all parts of Victoria, the Adelaide Hills, and the Great Southern, are all delivering wines of finesse and spice set to a lighter framework. The tapestry of Australian Shiraz is richly diverse, and will only continue to develop and mature into the future.
