- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Andevine is a fresh start for long-time Hunter Valley die-hard, Andrew Leembruggen.
After years working for some of the biggest names in Hunter Valley wine, including a time as Senior Winemaker at Mount Pleasent, Andrew is now pursuing his own interest and a quest to create “wines that are elegant and sufficiently affordable to be enjoyed everyday but yet sophisticated enough to be taken out to impress.”
This 2014 Reserve Semillon is the first release of its kind. Made from vines planted over 30 years ago, Andrew has knocked this out of the park, creating what Campbell Mattinson called an “Impressive debut.” in his 94 point review.
It’s perhaps a little fuller in body than your average ‘lean and mean’ young Hunter Semillon, which is no bad thing. A friendly style of premium Hunter Valley Semillon is something every wine lover should have in the cellar.
What It Tastes Like
“It’s a cracking wine. Delicate and refreshing yet keen with flavour through the finish. I tasted this over 24 hours and found my rating edging higher as time passed. Tart with lemon flavour at first but perfumed and then more tropical as it breathes. Wheaty aspects add something extra. Really quite something.” - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
94 points. “Exciting new Hunter Valley project of winemaker Andrew Leembruggen. Ex-Mount Pleasant winemaker, among other credits. There are three tiers of wine in the Andevine range: the four “Reserve” wines at the top. The Reserve is “A range of 100% Hunter Valley wines classically styled to reflect the single vineyards sites and typicity of the region and includes Semillon, Chardonnay, Pinot Shiraz and Shiraz. This tier is available exclusively from cellar door for $30/bottle.” This semillon is made from 30+ year old vines.

2014 RESERVE SEMILLON
Sourced from vines rooted in the famed sandy flats of the Hunter Valley’s lowlands, and adjacent to Andevine’s Cellar Door (formerly known as Warraroong Estate) on Wilderness Road Rothbury. The Semillon vineyard is over 30 years old and produces intensely flavoured fruit due to its aspect, soil structure and miniscule yield.
Hand harvested, whole bunch pressed and fermented with neutral yeast the wine was delicately handled to ensure that all of the flavours present at picking were retained in the wine. To express the true nature of the site the wine was bottled on 13th March, 8 weeks after harvest.
Very pale straw with green hints.
Citrus aromas of line and melon supported by passionfruit notes.
Fresh vibrant and seamless palate full of characteristic citrus. The fine texture and acidity of this wine gives enjoyment when youthful or aged.
Monitor in cellar through to 2030.

About the Producer
This is one of a new wave of Hunter Valley wineries that have popped up over the last few years. With a wealth of experience from not only making wine in the Hunter but elsewhere, winemaker Andrew Leembruggen is bringing a contemporary twist to some traditional Hunter wine styles.
The Hunter Valley is the home of Semillon in Australia. Arguably the best in the world, Hunter Semillon is one of Australia’s most truly unique wine styles. Add to that the fact that have been producing some of Australia’s best quality Shiraz for over a century and you can see why this is one of our most loved wine regions. But with a new generation of winemakers comes innovation. Now we are seeing risks being taken, new varieties being planted and some inspired winemaking which is writing a new chapter in the Hunter Valley’s rich history. We can’t wait to see what happens next.
