The 2013 Warramate Cabernets is an absolute bargain for those who love the medium weight ‘Clarets’ of the Yarra Valley.
The 2013 vintage was made by the acclaimed Yarra Yering winemaker, Sarah Crowe. The vineyard hits just up the hill beside the famous Yarra Yering vineyard. Winemaking is the same, batches of fruit fermented in the iconic 1-tonne ‘tea chest’ fermenters.
Suffice to say, you get a lot of wine for your dollars here. It would be twee to call it a ‘baby Dry Red No.1’, but it’s not far off.
What It Tastes Like
Nose of kalamatta olive, red berries, lively and bright fruit. It’s mid weight but with a lovely plush velvety mouthfeel. Ticks al the boxes. It’s a refined wine with plenty to love now or in a few years time. Smart buying for those who enjoy Yarra Valley Cabernet blends.
A medium-bodied “classic” claret style wine with a signature leafy lift. Layered fruits of blackcurrant and blueberries integrate with earthy complexity & fine dusty tannins. A brightness from the acidity underscores a generous palate weight of fruit and long finish ably assisted by the variety’s inherent structural tannins.
A wine of generosity and concentration with finesse rarely found at this price point. Perfect for immediate enjoyment, expect a mellow and graceful evolution for up to 10 years under suitable cellaring conditions.
