- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Ray Nadeson's Pinot Noir stylings are for those who enjoy Pinot of a more powerful bent. His unique winemaking philosophy drags deep pools of flavour from his Geelong fruit. The wines have a concentration, a wildness and a depth of structure which is identifiable as Lethbridge to their core. The 2013 caused James Halliday to call Ray a "master builder" of such wines in his 95 point review. This is a top release from Ray, drinking well now and for years to come.
What it Tastes Like
"Ray Nadeson is a master builder of full-bodied, long-lived pinot, deep in colour, resounding with poached plum and black cherry fruit, the tannins ripe and the oak lost in the oceans of flavour." - James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)

Wine Scribes are always talking about balance as foundation of all fine wine. What do they mean? For me wine is in balance when its diverse components, Fruit, aromatics, acidity, tannin and alcohol can coexist such that no single aspect overpowers or diminishes the nature of the wine as a whole. The genius of Pinot Noir is found in subtlety, in its ability to marry power with poise, structure with finesse. Therefore, wines made from perhaps this most expressive varietal should always have the principle of balance as paramount. At Lethbridge our Pinot Noirs are no shrinking violets. They abound with power, both in fruit density and tannin yet are juxtaposed with lifted aromatics and long acid backbone. Hand-picked, 30% whole bunches, 7-10 days cold soak, wild yeast fermentation to 32C, 5 days maceration, pressed direct to barrel (30% new).

About the Producer
Lethbridge is living proof that those pie-in-the-sky ideas you have with friends over a glass of wine can come true (if you are as talented and hard working as Ray Nadeson, Maree Collis and Adrian Thomas). This operation is considered one of the leading lights in the ‘natural wine’ movement, being founded on the idea that great fruit should speak for itself. The vineyards are grown with an organic philosophy and as little as possible is added to the wines through the winemaking process. The wines have a certain style to them, but most of all, the song of Geelong sings through the whole range. They are fascinating and delicious all at once.
This Victorian region rocks some very serious wines. Pinot Noir from this area, depending on who you talk too, is arguably the best in the country. Phenomenal output for the size of it. The wines from this area are idiosyncratic and have an earthy, sensual quality. Burgundian varieties, Syrah, hell, even Pinot Gris does exceptionally well here. To be honest, it’s very hard to go wrong when buying from Geelong.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
