- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Morus is the flagship Cabernet Sauvignon Cuvee from Domaine Naturaliste. The oldest and best vineyard source in Bruce Jukes' portfolio, this is grown on some of the most coveted Cabernet vines in Margaret River. _Morus australis_ is the species name for the mulberry tree, mulberry being the key identifying characteristic of this wine, according to the winemaker. The 2013 received an epic 98 points from James Halliday, solidifying itself amongst the most elite of Margaret River Cabernet. A powerful wine of commanding presence and outstanding quality.
What it Tastes Like
_98 points "A wall of flavour abuts a wall of tannin. This is a three-course dinner in liquid form, its density and architectural style both cut from the finest of cloths and sprinkled with perfume. Naming blackcurrant, gravel, cloves and dark chocolate doesn't do any kind of justice. We're much better off simply calling it as it is: a brilliant wine." - James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)

Blackberry, crème de cassis, baking spices, violet, regional perfume of seaweed, peppermint and bayleaf. Medium to full bodied, chocolate and forest berries, spice and pencilly oak, a mass of supple fine-grained tannin that grips if you swish it around, cool integrated acidity, and a very long finish with plump fruit, cake and sweet spices. It’s still very young and frisky, yet the drinking pleasure and complexity is already there. Love the feel of the tannin, especially the firm draw of the velvet curtains as the wine closes. Touch and go for 96 points." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

About the Producer
Domaine Naturalist is another of the ‘new guard’ Margaret River producers to keep an eye out for. Owner/winemaker Bruce Jukes has a wealth of winemaking experience both here and abroad, including a stint at Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic Niebaum Coppola winery in the Napa Valley. His wines are made from traditional Margaret River varieties and blends, but with a modern focus on elegance, freshness and balance. Great value too!
Margaret River is recognised as one of the country’s finest wine growing regions. The quality of the region’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay rival the very best in the world. But Margaret River is no two-trick-pony. There, Tempranillo and Malbec are excelling, Touriga Nacional seems to be quite at home, Chenin Blanc is getting serious and even pockets of Nebbiolo are rearing their heads. Watch this space. Who knows what new surprises are just around the corner from this famous region.
Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the truly Nobel grapes. An inherently structural variety, Cabernet when handled gently can produce majestic wines of grace and beauty that mature gloriously with time in the bottle. Australian Cabernet runs the full gamut of style: from lighter, more finely boned versions from regions such as the Yarra Valley, through the exquisitely complex and firm wines of Margaret River to the intensely powerful wines from the Coonawarra, there is much to explore in the world of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon.
