Orange may be best known for its Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blancs (and rightly so), but their reds are improving all the time. Well, with the Trophy for Best Red Wine at the 2015 Orange Wine Show, this Cabernet Sauvignon is right up there with the top reds in the region.
It comes from Brangayne - one of the hidden gems of Orange and a consistently excellent producer. Made by talented winemaker Simon Gilbert, this is a beautifully restrained Cabernet.
It’s not one of those punch-you-in-the-face with flavour sort of wines, but rather a complex, balanced and easy-going drop. It will age beautifully no doubt but also provides great drinking right now, unlike a lot of young Cabs.
