About The Wine
Orange may be best known for its Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blancs (and rightly so), but their reds are improving all the time. Well, with the Trophy for Best Red Wine at the 2015 Orange Wine Show, this Cabernet Sauvignon is right up there with the top reds in the region.
It comes from Brangayne - one of the hidden gems of Orange and a consistently excellent producer. Made by talented winemaker Simon Gilbert, this is a beautifully restrained Cabernet.
It’s not one of those punch-you-in-the-face with flavour sort of wines, but rather a complex, balanced and easy-going drop. It will age beautifully no doubt but also provides great drinking right now, unlike a lot of young Cabs.
Super value for a Trophy-winning wine of such class. Great buying.

Brangayne is one of the leading producers in Orange. As the region continues to make its mark on the Australian wine industry, the Orange looks to benchmark producers like Brangayne to raise the bar - and that they do. They specialise in stunning cool climate versions of Cabernet, Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Noir and have been one of the region’s leading lights for many years.
The wine scene in Orange is alive and kicking. With each vintage that passes the bar of quality is raised again and again. Pinot Noir is a potential champion for the region but for now Shiraz, Chardonnay, Riesling and Cabernet are the flag bearers. The cool climate and the high altitude vineyards are producing wines of finesse and class and there is some ripping value to be had in this region.
Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the truly Nobel grapes. An inherently structural variety, Cabernet when handled gently can produce majestic wines of grace and beauty that mature gloriously with time in the bottle. Australian Cabernet runs the full gamut of style: from lighter, more finely boned versions from regions such as the Yarra Valley, through the exquisitely complex and firm wines of Margaret River to the intensely powerful wines from the Coonawarra, there is much to explore in the world of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon.
