Grenache is the base variety for some of the worlds finest red wines. We are lucky enough in this country to have some of the oldest plantings of this variety anywhere in the world. The Bekkers Grenache is sourced from from an old, dry grown vineyard near the McLaren Vale township. Toby has had his eye on this vineyard for many years and now gets a small amount of fruit from these "old warrior" vines to make his wonderful expression of the variety. He says that, "Grenache augments the subtle differences of vintage and vineyard in sharper relief than Shiraz." to which end he sees the 2013 vintage as "a little brighter and more fragrant than the denser, darker 2012. In my opinion, it's a better wine for it...". This is a Grenache that makes a statement. It says that McLaren Vale Grenache can rival any in the world, and looking at examples like this and others from the likes of Steve Pannell and Yangarra, it's pretty hard to argue with.

What it Tastes Like

Soft woody notes and wild cherries, with a floral perfume of musk and violet. So luscious, laden with cherry choc notes and spice. The brightness and depth to it keeps you coming back for more. Layered with sweet upfront fruit, spice through the palate, finishes with a grainy, sour cherry kick. Pretty serious stuff.
