Winemaker Mark Wehr’s Nebbiolo is a good drink. He’s cunningly managed to capture all the distinctive ‘Neb’ character whilst maintaining a ‘new world’ drinkability. It’s ripe, juicy and food-friendly with plenty of structure and fruit.

What It Tastes Like
Nebbiolo all over. Red berries and cherry with tarry notes and some flowers. There is a soft truffle character which is beautifully poised in the mix and touch of musk and herbals for good measure. Tannin that grips the whole mouth and acid to carry the sour cherry and spicy palate. Finishes clean.
The greatest grape? Some say so, especially the Italians from north-west Italy (Piedmonte to be precise).
Bright ruby/cherry red colour. Spice and florals – violets, sweet/savoury herbs – lead to earth, game and some truffle. Also shows tarry blackberry and redfruits cherry and rhubarb, licorice and a slight smoky hint.
The palate is medium-bodied, warm and generous. Spicy redfruits abound – cherry, rhubarb, some prune and blackcurrant. Eastern spices of clove and cardamom round it out. These crunchy fruit flavours and textures lead to the classic crunchy acid/tannin flesh‐out on the back palate. An Italian classic wine style, firmly structured, yet approachable in its youth. Best enjoyed with food. 21% whole bunch ferment, on skins for 29 days. Matured in aged French oak for 16 months, unfined & unfiltered. Only 103 dozen made from a single vineyard site near Yallingup.

Nebbiolo is one of the world’s truly great wine grapes. Most famously produced in the Italian regions of Barolo and Barbaresco, this king-pin of varieties is making a surge on Australian soil. A notoriously late ripening variety, Australian producers are constantly refining the way they grow this grape. Nebbiolo wines are light to medium bodied with incredible internal power and structure. The classic descriptors of ‘tar & roses’ are often applied to this variety but the scope for complexity and nuance in the best versions is virtually limitless.
