- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Tuck’s Ridge Buckle series is the flagship range for this iconic Mornington Peninsular producer.
The best fruit from their best vineyard, the pick of the litter in any given vintage.
In difficult years like the 2011 vintage, all adversity is taken in stride by these mighty vines.
This is a wine that represents a time and a place, “typical of the vintage” according to the winery, themselves.
It is a lighter, more delicate style of Buckle but the craftsmanship and the class of the vineyard shine through in every drop.
What It Tastes Like
“As always, this wine manages to beautifully combine grace and power. An elegant style typical of this vintage, This Buckle has the usual dancing red cherries, a little toasty oak spice and some attractive forest floor aromatics. At this early stage it is still building flesh on the bones and thus requires a little patience.” - (http://www.tucksridge.com.au/)
SEASON 2011 This was a challenging vintage in all respects! After ample winter rains, the same patterns continued into spring but with the added difficulty of warm temperatures and several warm, still and very humid nights. This combination is perfect for downy mildew and many in South Eastern Australia were hit hard. Fortunately in the Mornington Peninsula, many of our standard intensive viticutural practices are the perfect defense against this pathogen, so most survived. Late in December some were then hit by powdery mildew and it was clear to all that the third major menace, botrytis would be a risk late in the season. In spite of all of this, the mild steady ripening suggested brilliant quality was possible. The rain, however, just kept happening, inflating berries and thus making the reds look a little pale compared to other years. The natural acids are excellent and thus the wines are bright and have lovely length. This is definitely a vintage of not judging a book by its cover!
WINEMAKING The Tucks Pinot Noirs are always hand harvested, chilled overnight, then destemmed and transferred to tank. Some whole berries (But no stalks) are retained as this enhances aroma. The must is then inoculated and the cap plunged by hand 3 times a day. The plunging will

The Mornington Peninsula has become a go-to destination for lovers of modern Australian Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Mornington’s perfect climatic conditions for producing these varieties has seen it become, in only a relatively short time, one of the premier regions for these varieties in the country. The wines are beautiful. The best examples are wines which show a restrained power. Both intensity and elegance. It’s a region which will continue to blossom and mature for many years to come.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
