- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
This famous wine sits amongst the pantheon of great Australian white wines. This, the Tyrrell’s Vat 1, the Brokenwood ILR and the Mount Pleasant Lovedale (in good years) are the big names in Hunter Sem.
The Braemore vineyard is one of the most iconic in the entire region, having been consistently excellent for decades. The man who gets the pick of this fruit is Andrew Thomas. The ‘Cellar Reserve’ is Thommo’s pick of the fruit. This stuff is electric.
He releases it with some bottle age so you get a glimpse of what lies ahead for this great wine. Something for the patient to hide away yet also something you can consume now and revel in its glory.
The latest incarnation, the 2010 release was rated 96 points by Mr. Halliday. Hunter Sem at its finest. It’s a beautiful thing.
What It Tastes Like
“Just entering the perfect drinking zone, but with many years of life and development ahead. This is being released at the optimal time. It tastes of citrus, hay and candied orange but mostly it seems controlled, taut and lengthy. Impressive, it certainly is.” - James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)

Winemakers Comments Hunter Valley semillon is one of the worlds most uniquely regional wine styles. The Braemore vineyard (planted 1969) is situated on the sandy alluvial flats of Hermitage Road, Pokolbin, and consistently produces semillon featuring freshness, vibrancy and remarkable longevity. This wine has achieved an enviable reputation in recent years as being one of the finest examples of classic Hunter Valley semillon. The 2010 vintage presented excellent conditions for Hunter Valley Semillon, with a wet winter and mild growing season allowing for perfect ripening of the grapes whilst retaining excellent natural acidity. Three separate hand pickings from 28th January to 6th February. The grapes were lightly pressed to minimise phenolics and fermented in stainless steel using a neutral yeast to enhance varietal purity. The wine spent six weeks resting on its yeast lees to build some textural complexity prior to fining in preparation for bottling in June 2010. 498 six-packs of this wine have been set aside in our climate controlled cellar destined for re-release with six years bottle age.
Tasting Notes Released in August 2016, this wine is just starting to emerge with those classic bottle aged Hunter Semillon complexities. Bright mid yellow/green in colour, the nose has nuances of buttered toast and honeycomb, layered over fresh grassy, citrus like fruit. The palate has developed an attractive richness, yet maintains an amazing delicacy and freshness with vibrant fruit and a fine, focused line of acidity. In a superb drinking zone right now, it will continue to evolve over the next decade.
