The Cabernet Sauvignon grown by Peter and Ruth Althaus on their Coal River Valley vineyard is an aberration of Australian wine. Receiving some of the longest sunshine hours of any vineyard in the country sees the Bordeaux varieties close-planted on their vineyard ripen late into April and early May. The Petit 'a' is made in an earlier drinking style of Bordeaux blend. Remarkably, this means that it is approachable fro seven years of age, and set to develop further over the next 8-10 years. 94 points from James Halliday and 91 points from Campbell Mattinson for the 2010 vintage. A powerful, full-bodied Cabernet blend that is a style all of its own.

What it Tastes Like

"Full-bodied. Tasmania cabernet blend, with grunt, and weight, and impact. It’s loaded with tannin too; it almost groans with it, though the tannin is ripe. The wine as a whole is a force of elegance. Dark green herbs, kirsch, pencils, mulberry, loamy earth; all painted in water colours. Plenty going on. It’s not a seamless wine, but weight and character it has in spades." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
