Riverina dessert wine is one of Australia's most iconic wine styles. Names like 'Noble 1' put the region on the map for botrytis-made wines and wines like this from long time favourite producer Moppity are following in its footsteps. Like Noble 1 it's made from the Semillon variety, ensuring there is enough acidity and zip to balance its luscious sweetness. Super value at under $20!
What it Tastes Like
It's golden yellow in colour, with sweet, luscious aromas of honey, marmalade, citrus and buttered toast. The palate is 'sticky' and luscious but with enough zingy, zesty, citrusy acidity to keep the flavours moving along and cleanse the palate. Pretty hard not to enjoy!
90 points, "From the Riverina, not Hilltops, hence the very high baume (23?) at which it was picked, and also the cut of acidity that is particular to botrytis; part matured in French oak." - James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)
Closure: Screw Cap
Bottle Size: 750ml
About the Producer
In less than 5 years Moppity have captured the wine trade’s imagination with their wonderfully balanced, concentrated and expressive cool climate wines. Take note, this winery are one of the rising stars if Australian wine.
This is one to watch. The Hilltops in NSW has some huge potential. The high altitude vineyards in this region are producing some of the most epic cool climate Syrah/Shiraz and Cabernet on the market at the moment. With a relatively low profile (for now), the value to be had in this area is second to none. But get in quick, the word is getting out and it wont be that way for long. Love yourself the more refined side of Shiraz? The Hilltops is a place you really need to check out.
