About The Wine
Lark Hill set a high standard for Canberran viticulture.
Their biodynamically grown vineyards are the envy of many in the region; full of vitality, producing consistently cracking fruit, year in year out.
Riesling is truly one of the rockstar varieties of the Canberra wine district. The Lark Hill version is a smashing example of why.
It is fair to say there is a fair amount of hubbub in the industry around the 2015 vintage for Canberran wineries, in fact Lark Hill went so far as to say, “2015 may be remembered as one of the great vintages in Canberra; with great fruit intensity, higher-than anticipated yields and above all else, incredible fruit quality.”
The proof is in the pudding and this wonderful, intense and beguiling Riesling is good enough proof for us.
What It Tastes Like
“Really into how the wine smells – lime, lemongrass, touch of ginger, whiff of honey, some floral things. In the palate, a good flow of limey, juicy stuff going on. It’s perhaps maybe just a bit too loose and missing some pep of tightening acidity, but the overall feel is of a super drinkable wine with good freshness and vitality. Pair up with something spicy.” - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
91 points. “Certified biodynamic vineyards in Canberra District. The Carpenters, not Karen and Richard, are at the helm of this elevated estate. The 2015 vintage around that part of the world was very good.

2015 may be remembered as one of the great vintages in Canberra; with great fruit intensity, higher-than anticipated yields and above all else, incredible fruit quality. This Riesling shows this in vibrant limey characters, crunchy apple acidity and a minerality that gives the palate focus and length. This is a wine that will reward cellaring, gaining toasty complexity and depth of character over a decade or more in the bottle.

The story of how Gruner Veltliner came to be at Lark Hill is an interesting one, and a brave one.
It started with renowned wine writer Jancis Robinson remarking that the variety would be well suited to their site in the Canberra district. An obsession with the grape, and with biodynamic farming, soon followed.
Canberra. A mountain of potential. A sleeping giant of Australian wine. The ability of this region to produce world class wines in only a relatively short history is almost second to none in the whole country. We have some absolute geniuses to thank for developing this region. People have taken notice. Canberra wine is some serious gear. With the ability to produce everything from perfumed and tightly wound Syrah, to razor sharp Riesling and a bunch of emerging varieties in the ground excelling, Canberra will be one of the ‘must watch’ wine producing regions in Australia for many years to come.
Riesling is the king of white grapes. With unparalleled versatility, it rightfully carries the ‘Noble’ name tag. We make extraordinary Riesling in Australia, from far and wide. From the classic searing, razor-sharp styles in the Clare and Eden Valleys to the fragrant and enchanting wines of the Great Southern, Australian Riesling is a chameleon that can take on many forms. Sweet, steely, lean or textured, the world of Riesling is a thing of wonder that should be explored by all true lovers of wine.
