About The Wine
In short, Mike De Iuliis is absolutely killing it at the moment.
After picking up a swag of awards at both the NSW and Hunter Valley Wine Shows last year, he was also the most successful producer in James Halliday’s Top 100 Wines of the Year for 2015.
The only producer to get three wines in the Top 100, the Talga Road Shiraz, the 2015 De Iuliis Semillon and, the 2014 De Iuliis Chardonnay. The reason for this is pretty simple:
A whole lot of wine, not a lot of dollars.
The 2015 Chardonnay looks every bit as good as its predecessor, it ekes the Hunter Valley out of every pore. It is hand harvested, whole bunch pressed and fermented in French oak, it gets the works and it is still under $20!
One of the best buys you will find in all NSW wine!
What It Tastes Like
Sooooo Hunter Valley. Creamy, nutty, yellow peaches and grapefruit. It’s so smooth, with a lovely soft mid palate. Loads of flavour but with an insane level of drinkability. Could only be from the Hunter. Cracking Chardy, here.
2014 Vintage - 94 points & Top 100 Wines of 2015 “Hand-picked, whole bunch-pressed, barrel-fermented in French oak - an expensive route for a $19 wine. The Hunter Valley is in a purple patch with chardonnays winning major trophies left, right and centre. This is right in the mix, with pure varietal expression (white peach and pink grapefruit) cosseted by impeccable oak.”
- James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)
Description Mouth filling and elegant, this hand crafted wine is a great example of a modern Hunter Chardonnay. The rich fruit palate with peach, melon and almond flavours is balanced by the creamy texture from French Oak treatment.

De Iuliis - pronounced [de uli ~ iss] - are one of the brightest stars from the Hunter Valley. Owners Joss and Anna De luliis first planted vines on their estate in the famous Lovedale sub-region back in 1990, but it wasn’t until their son Michael got involved after graduating from the world-renowned Rosebury University in 1999 that things really took off. Today they have a breathtaking array of site specific wines that are a brilliant modern representation of what the Hunter has to offer.
The Hunter Valley is the home of Semillon in Australia. Arguably the best in the world, Hunter Semillon is one of Australia’s most truly unique wine styles. Add to that the fact that have been producing some of Australia’s best quality Shiraz for over a century and you can see why this is one of our most loved wine regions. But with a new generation of winemakers comes innovation. Now we are seeing risks being taken, new varieties being planted and some inspired winemaking which is writing a new chapter in the Hunter Valley’s rich history. We can’t wait to see what happens next.
Australian Chardonnay is a seductive variety that comes in all shapes and sizes. From the toasty and voluptuous to the lean, flinty and minerally, there is a Chardonnay out there to suit everyone. Australia’s developing prowess with this variety has been marked by the international community with wine writers such as Jancis Robinson marvelling at the outstanding value to be had right across the country. The prestige brands of Margaret River offer wines of deep flavour and power, often crafting fuller-figured Chardonnay of outstanding quality. The cooler-climate wines from the Yarra Valley, Tasmania and the like are more focused and linear, building complexity around a backbone of pristine acidity. Whatever your preference, there is an Australian Chardonnay to enchant all comers.
